Being sweet and cute suits me best: Minissha Lamba

Minissha Lamba says she’s looking for a lover boy so she can fall in love, get married and have kids. Rein in your imagination — she’s talking about her character Mahi, in the forthcoming release Bachna Ae Haseeno.

“I play a young girl from Amritsar and her wishes are very innocent. All she wants is to find the love of her life,” says Minissha. There’s a bit of Mahi in all of us, she feels.

“We all are looking for our partner, consciously or unconsciously, to have a fulfilling relationship,” she continues. Is she yearning for it, too? “I think life would be incomplete if you don’t experience it,” Minissha replies, blushing.
While she’s unwilling to pursue that line of talk, she’s just plain stumped about finding the words to sing co-star Ranbir Kapoor’s praises. “He is born talented, a natural charmer, just like his role in the film,” she finally says.

“We share a rapport… there’s an unspoken understanding between us.”

Bachna Ae Haseeno is her first romantic comedy, and Minissha admits it was the light, youthful concept that drew her to her role as Ranbir Kapoor’s first love. And the fact that she could play up her cute factor. “Being sweet and cute suits me best. I left the sexy image for Bipasha and Deepika,” she says with a laugh. She has no regrets about not wearing any Western outfits.

“Bipasha and Deepika didn’t get a chance to wear Indian outfits. I was the only one who wore them,” she points out. Her look isn’t that of a typical Punjabi girl, she adds. “It’s a lot of mix and match, with kurtis and capris, tops and patiala salwars with spaghetti string tops.”deepika padukone

Her look isn’t the only thing that Minissha is thoroughly pleased with; she’s also in awe of the film’s director Siddharth Anand. “He is not tough, but very focussed. He is the first director I’ve called by his nickname, Sid. This shows how cool he is,” she chuckles.

As preparation for the film, she watched Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge 17 times. “Because Mahi is inspired by the film and is looking for her Raj. I had already seen DDLJ 10 times before this film and would not mind watching it ‘n’ number of times.” But that’s not going to be the case with her movies. “I am my biggest critic, as I critically analyse every single frame. I believe that helps me learn and improve.”
